ASKHAM GRANGE PRISON

Askham Grange Prison Information: The Prison is open conditions and for female prisoners. It is located in Askham Richard Village which is in North Yorkshire.

The Prison holds over 120 inmates and run by His Majestys Prison Service. Askham also houses YOI, Younger Offenders with most only being in the prison for a short time before being released.

What is Askham Grange Prison Like?

Askham Prison, due to being a womens prison also has the facility to hold upto 10 mothers to enable them to continue giving care to their children full time whilst serving a sentence.

Askham Grange is one of only 2 open female prisons in the UK. The prison is a tiny victorian prison which was originally built in 1886. 

The prison started out as a contry family home. It was due to be closed in 2013 but due to increasing prisoner numbers, the prison still remains open
