ASHFIELD PRISON
Ashfield Prison is a sex offenders prison in South Gloucestershire and run privately by Serco
Its based in a village of Pucklechurch and was the old remand centre opened in 1999. The prison has a small capacity of over 412 prisoners.
Ashfield Prison is a CAT C Prison and provide intervention courses, education and other skill based training to support the reduction of reoffending. The prison is separated into 2 blocks, Severn and Avon. Each has 4 wings across 2 floors. There is a mix of single cells and shared cells at the prison. The prisoner, upon arrival to the prison will start in the EDC Centre which is the early days centre, their version of induction or reception wing before moving the prisoner onto one of the main wings.

What is Ashfield Prison like?
Due to the nature of sexual offences of prisoners, a recent report showed 85% of the inmates were at high to very high risk of harm to the public. The report suggested that, even with rehabilitation that was offered by the prison, the safety of the public upon release of the prisoner was not sufficiently good.
The inspectors stated that the prison provided a respectful environment, relationship between officer and prisoner was strong and 86% of prisoners said they were treated with respect.
Ashfield prison was in good condition, not overcrowded, there were gardens, animal husbandry, purposeful activities, training and education offered.
The downside of Ashfield prison was the disappointing findings in regards to resettlement planning and rehabilitation.

Ashfield Prison has their own ATM (computer) for prisoners to use inside the prison. They can order their food, canteen, phone credit and also book their own visitors in for a visit to ashfield prison.
