HOW TO GET TO A CAT D PRISON
How to become a cat d status prisoner.
To become a Cat D Prisoner, you will need to have proved your worth whilst inside prison. Completed whatever courses they request you to be put on, got on board with the prison rules and regimes and finally, done exactly what your OMU or personal officer has provided you on your sentence plan.
Each prisoner will be given a sentence plan. This is what the offender managers feel that you should be working towards whilst in prison. This could range from money management to victim awareness. Finally, you will have to be deemed as a less of a security or flight risk should you be transfered to open prison conditions.
What is Cat D Prison like?
Coming from closed conditions where your doors always locked, not much freedom, lots of security and feeling like a caged animal to all of a sudden having a lot of freedom is completely overwhelming. Prisoners all work towards getting out of Cat B prisons to get to a Cat C and eventually all prisoners want to end up in a Cat D prison to see out the rest of their sentence. Doors are left unlocked, most have a key to their own door. You are free to wonder around the grounds for exercise after roll calls. The food is better, the officers treat you better and there are less of them. Finally, and the most important, you can access release on temporary licence to be able to go home and even get upto 5 days out of the prison each month. If you need prison advice go back to the home page
What are ROTL'S?
A ROTL is release on temporary licence. You can get an RDR which is day release upto 5 hours and most then work towards an ROR which is overnight release. The maximum time out the prison per month can be upto 5 days and 4 nights to be at home with your loved ones.
